Food routine is an important part of our daily life that help us in maintaining a balanced diet. Some people eat food to live whereas some live just to eat. Some houses have food but no one to eat and then there are houses with hunger but nothing to eat. Food is among one of those essentials including air, water, and sleep without which a human cannot survive after a specified period. Since food is an integral part of our life here are some few things about food which should be known.

We will be observing World Food Day on 16 October and this year it’s theme is –‘Leave No one Behind’. This blog is dedicated to the world food day theme of this year.

Food Cuisines

Food gives the body, energy and nutritional support to sustain life. As per some people, an ideal food has three aspects: – it should look appeasing, smell delicious, and taste like heaven. In fact, Chinese people believe “the first bite is with the eyes”. Every dish has its own distinctive style, culture, and regional traits and this takes the form of different food cuisines because of the great efforts, exploration, and years of dedication of the people, today we have the access to more than a hundred cuisines global level. Usually, at the global level, the cuisines are recognized from a country influenced by locally available ingredients and preparation methods but sometimes due to high diversity, some countries offer sub-cuisines that are highly distinctive from each other.

Each food type has a special essence and perhaps that leads most of the cuisines to rank among the top at the world level together. By looking at the different criteria to like the food –

  • French cuisine offers locally sourced natural ingredients, and fresh and simple flavors with pride in presentation, and rules the world by laying the foundations for many different styles and specialties.
  • Being the healthiest, completely dairy free, and served whole, Chinese cuisine is mostly liked by people who believe in eating traditional meal communally.
  • The gravy-like sauce or curry lovers, blended flavors of spices and flavorings, and creating every single variety of food items in numerous ways is something which Indian cuisine includes, making it one of the most diversified countries in the world.
  • The complex balancing of five distinct flavors – spicy, salty, bitter, sweet, and sour are aromatic and light as well as something which Thai food is popular for.
  • Turkish food is famous for its meat full, skewers, and the huge range of vegetable dishes.

The growing interconnectedness and cultural influences have given a vivid exposure to all the cuisines, making it possible to create its impact among people apart from the native countries.

Food Etiquettes

We have now come to an era where dining etiquettes and table manners are more paid attention to what you are eating. Especially in terms of having a specific cuisine, it is regarded as a mark of respect towards the custom. Usually, eating habits are often associated with the cutlery used. Knives and forks are something which is universally used as a part of the influencing western culture, while in the Middle East and especially in India the hands are considered as the best cutlery. Way different from these South East Asian countries like China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam prefer their own style of eating food which is with chopsticks.

Eating routine

An average individual divides the daily meal into four parts comprising breakfast, lunch, supper, and dinner. The common idea of daily food intake is limited to three square meals but the current scenario and work culture has severely affected the diets of all age groups Some people prefer to eat meal 5 times a day on the contrary; intermittent fasting has now become; popular and effective and considered as a `Lifestyle diet’ to deal with major health problems and avoiding unnecessary food schedules.

Food Division and its impacts

The share of access to food is unequal due to the distribution of population and natural resources. Some other factors mainly comprise regional, political, and socio-economic factors creating differences among the sections and classes of people at all levels. Besides these major reasons, it is every individual who makes an impact in this process. In our daily life it is very often we see people wasting food by leaving it on their plates and contributing to food wastage while there are millions who sleep for days without having a proper single meal per day.

How can food wastage be reduced?
